Infrastructure for tsunami devastated schools

MATARA: Southern Provincial Office of the Save the Children in Sri Lanka has launched a massive school redevelopment programme in Matara.

Under the proposed programme schools in which tsunami welfare camps were carried out are to be developed soon.

Ethkandura Seewali Maha Vidyalaya, Hikkaduwa Sri Sumangala Central College, Palatuwa Central College, Gandara Maha Vidyalaya and Rakawa Junior School are included in the proposed development project.

According to Padmasiri Bandara, Southern Provincial Director, Save the Children in Sri Lanka construction of new 3 storied buildings, reconstruction of damaged buildings and provision of water and sanitation have already been done.

Renovations and constructions are expected to be completed before the end of this year.

The total expenditure for all these development activities is at Rs. 80 million. Save the Children in Sri Lanka funds the project.

Development of Physical Resources in tsunami welfare camps would be the objective of this programme, Padmasiri Bandara, Southern Provincial Director, Save the Children in Sri Lanka told the Daily News.
