President visits Katunayaka Air Base

KATUNAYAKA: President Mahinda Rajapaksa inspected the Katunayaka Air Force Base yesterday morning, states a President's Office media release.

On arrival the President was received by Air Force Commander Air Marshall Roshan Gunatilleke and was accorded a special guard of honour.

The President's visit yesterday was the first in the past 20 years the Base ever came to be visited by a Head of the State.

The President also visited the Air Force Hospital within the Base and having inquired after the health of inmates paid attention to existing shortcomings in the hospital. He was accompanied by President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
