Inter-Regiment Rugby finals

RUGBY: The finals of Inter-Regiment Rugby Tournament of the Sri Lanka Army will be worked off on September 29 (Thursday) at Army Grounds, Galle Face.

The Sri Lanka Army Service Corp will confront the General Service Corp in the final. The Service Corp will be led by National player Kapila Knowton and including 14 players who have represented the Army rugby team in the 'A' Division tournament.

The General Service Corp will be captained by Manjula Prasanna Pililletenne and will include several outstanding Army 'A' Division ruggerites including Sri Lanka Sevens player Asanka Perera. The Service Corp is being coached by Sanath Morlis while the General Service Corp is being guided by P. G. Gunawardena.

In the semi-finals, General Service Corp beat Armoured Corp by 13 points to 10 in extra time after the Sevens stood at 10-all at full time while the Sri Lanka Army Service Corp scored a runaway 26-7 win over Sinha Regiment.

The matches were played on a league basis with eight regiments being divided into two groups. Sri Lanka Armoured Corp, Gemunu Watch, Sri Lanka Army Service Corp and Sri Lanka Army General Service Corp were drawn into Group 'A' while Sinha Regiment, Ordinance Corp, Signal Corp and National Guard were in Group 'B'.
