LTTE suspect released on bail in Canada
CANADA: A LTTE suspect who faces extradition to the United States on
terrorism charges has been granted bail in Canada.
Piratheepan Nadarajah, 30, was released on nearly C$ 750,000 bail on
Tuesday.
US court documents allege Nadarajah is a scientist and technical
expert who intentionally conspired to provide material support to the
LTTE terrorists.The LTTE is listed as a terrorist group in the US and
Canada.
Nadarajah was arrested Aug. 23 after a joint Royal Canadian Mounted
Police-FBI investigation and is among 11 people in both countries
arrested in the case.
American authorities allege Nadarajah tried to travel across the
Canada-U.S. border in the Niagara, Ontario area on Aug. 18 with three
other suspects. Authorities allege they were on their way to buy weapons
in Long Island, New York.
Nadarajah is from Brampton, Ontario.
