Issue commemorative stamps for late LSSP stalwarts
COLOMBO: The Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) has requested the
Minister of Posts to issue postage stamps in honour of two stalwarts of
the party. They are the former Minister, late Leslie Goonewardane and
former Senator D. W. J. Perera.
Leslie Goonewardane had been a Member of Parliament representing the
Panadrua electorate and was the Transport Minister during the
SLFP-LSSP-CP Government. He had been the Secretary of the Party for
quite a long time and had been a founder of the party.
D. W. J. Perera has been a long-standing member of the LSSP and was a
teacher at the Panadura Sri Sumangala College. He also served as the
Panadura Urban Council Chairman and was the first teacher to be
appointed to the Senate.
The Party has pointed out that these members fully deserve to be
honoured by commemorative stamps
