Environment Conservation Week, October 1-7

KEGALLE: Based on the concept of 'Mahinda Chintana' the 1st week of
October 2006 is being given priority in all public activities in Kegalle
district for the work in connection with the 'Conservation of the
environment in the creation of balance in the sphere of ecology.'
In this regard many schools in the district have resolved to
implement programmes like planting of trees, disposal of garbage
properly and keeping the school premises cleam and pleasant looking, in
addition to these activities, the senior students are to be provided
lectures emphasising how the pollution of the environment reflects badly
on the health of all humans. This programme will be implemented from
October 1 to 7.
The Ruwanwella Pradeshiya Sabha is to play a leading role in this
connection getting all schools in its area to participate in the
environment conservation activities.
Schools in Ruwanwella Education Zone will get involved in the
planting of trees in their respective school yards, in addition to
proper disposal of garbage and keeping the school premises clean and
quite neat and tidy, as disclosed to the Daily News by Pradeshiya Sabha
sources in Ruwanwella in Kegalle district.
In this connection Ruwanwella PS has taken steps to distribute
various kinds of valuable plants to schools and other institutions
interested in the planting of trees, including in their own homegardens.
Based on this programme the Ruwanwella PS authorities has requested
the school heads to provide the PS office indicating the number of
plants each school needs to be planted in their respective schoolyards
or in the immediate environs.
The Ministry of Environment Conservation has declared the 1st week of
October as the period of the Conservation of the Environment so that all
those who are keen in rendering some assistance could participate in
activities performed by various organisations in the environment
conservation.
