Turkish Premier to open Midigama Housing Scheme in December

WELIGAMA: Construction work on the Weligama Midigama Tewatta Tsunami
Housing Scheme, considered the biggest tsunami housing scheme undertaken
in Sri Lanka, with 450 houses, has now been completed and the Turkish
Prime Minister is due to open it in December, said Bharathi Wijeratne
Sri Lanka Counsel General in Turkey.
She said the foundation stone for this housing scheme costing Rs. 700
million funded by the Red Crescent Organisation in Turkey was laid by
the Turkish Prime Minister on February 10, 2005.
Wijeratne said political authorities led by Port, Aviation and
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera provided their unstinted
co-operation to make this project a success.
