Timex BPO selected as official service provider
SELECTION: Timex BPO, a subsidiary of Timex Garments has been
selected as the official service provider to operate the Government
Information Centre (GIC) and its hotline 1919.
This solution which is backed by the service and technological
expertise of Suntel, has been set up to provide a friendly, prompt and
accurate service to the general public regarding government related
information, whilst ensuring that the service is made available at all
times.
Commenting on this initiative, Programme Manager/ Head of Media and
PR of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA),
Athula Pushpakumara said, "This would be the first ever government call
centre which is dedicated to provide government-related information to
the public in all three languages."
With the launch of the GIC, the process of obtaining information
regarding government services will now be easily accessible and hassle
free. The GIC will provide callers with information regarding day-to-day
issues such as procedures of obtaining identity cards, driving licences,
Passports etc. If the information required is not available on the GIC
database, an agent will make it available within 24 hours.
This project comes under the direct purview of the Information and
Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) that functions under
the Office of the President and was launched recently under the
patronage of the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa. This initiative currently
covers 20 government departments and plans to provide information to
another 35 government departments by the end of this year.
Operating from 8.00 a.m to 8.00 p.m all year round, the Government
Information Centre (GIC) is prepared to serve the general public with
all their government related information requirements and queries in an
effective and efficient manner.
Having already served more than 60,000 calls during the last 4 months
during the beta testing stage, the GIC is keen to meet with the
exceeding predetermined international standards.
Managing Director, Suntel Jeremy Huxtable says 'we are pleased to be
associated with the first trilingual call centre in Sri Lanka and are
delighted to be a part of this program. Whilst congratulating Timex BPO
on their appointment he further added 'we assure you of a good service
that will in turn meet with the required telecommunication needs of this
