STF kills three LTTEers

COLOMBO: In a confrontation that lasted over five hours the STF killed three LTTE terrorists in Isamalai, Murunkan yesterday.The clashes occurred when some LTTE cadres attempted to cross from cleared areas to the uncleared areas on the Mannar - Medawachchiya road.

There were no casualties among the STF.

According to military sources the STF engaged in a route clearing mission at around midnight when its personnel spotted a group of terrorists attempting to cross over to Arippu and Silavathurai from the cleared areas in Murunkan. The STF personnel ambushed the LTTE cadres and the cross fire was lasted until yesterday 4.30 am, OIC Murunkan Somasiri Liyanage said.

The troops confirmed that at least three LTTE cadres were killed in this ambush.

The terrorists fled the scene in the face of STF fire, OIC Liyange said.
