Situation in East: UN delegates to be briefed
US: Resettlement Minister Rishard Badurdeen and Presidential Advisor
A.H.M. Azwer are now in New York as members of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa's delegation representing the interests of Sri Lanka's Muslim
community.
They are expected to brief officials and diplomats from concerned
countries about the recent developments in the East which affected the
Muslim community.
Several reports in pro-LTTE media have stated that President
Rajapaksa's delegation does not include Muslims.
The reports alleged that this had been done to show that the
Government was supportive of the fight against Muslims by certain
countries.
Sources close to the Sri Lankan delegation said the LTTE was
spreading such misinformation with the intention of creating communal
tensions in Sri Lanka. |
