Lankans do well at the Asian Junior Rowing

ROWING: Sri Lankan rowers performed well at the 12th Asian Junior
Rowing Championships 2006 which was held at the Padan Reservoir,
Singapore recently. Which was organized by the Singapore Amateur Rowing
Association (SARA) which is affiliated to The International Rowing
Association (FISA) Asian Rowing Federation, The South East Asian Rowing
Federation and The Singapore National Olympic Council.
Sri Lankans did well to reach the finals of four events.
Amenthi Weerasinghe who represented the junior womens single skull
and Dimitri Thilokasunderam with Danushi Rodrigo who took part in the
double skull both placed 6th at the final.
The junior womens four skull consisted of Gayani Botejue, Savani
Dissanayake Shadeena Mendis and Shiyana Welikala who were placed 5th.
Junior mens single Scull was represented by Gayan Jayaratne and the
double Scull Gayan Jayaratne and Muditha Jayasinghe. Jayarathne came 6th
in the single skull.
Bishops College, Ananda College, Ladies College and Royal College
were the schools those took part. Johann C.Corera managed and coached
the team on behalf of Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARSL).
Twelve countries participated in this championship including Singapore,
Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia,
India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
Twenty companies including Commercial Bank, A and E Therad, Unichela,
ABC Group, DT Motors, Seylan Bank, Sea Consortium, Sri Lanka Shipping,
Access Group, Colombo Dockyard, General Sales, Devlon Security and
Investigation, Ambuja Cement, Int. Trimmings and Labels, Linea Intimo,
McCallum Cargo, Hayleys, Sierra, Seylan Tikiri and Bernards. |
