ACF remains in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: Action Contre la Faim (ACF), an international
non-governmental organisation, announced that it has decided to maintain
but, reduce its humanitarian operational presence in Sri Lanka.
This decision follows the killing of 17 aid workers of Action Contre
la Faim on August 4 whose bodies were found in the office at Muttur on
August 6. The decision follows a final ratification last week by the
Board of Directors of Action Contre la Faim in Paris.
Action Contre la Faim will reduce the size of its operation in Sri
Lanka but will maintain an operational capacity for emergency
humanitarian activities that cover the food, water and essential
non-food items.
Action Contre la Faim has reoriented its operations based on its
central mandate of humanitarian intervention, the core of operations in
more than 40 countries spread around the world.
The decision is based on three major rationales - Allowing Action
Contre la Faim to follow the situation of the victims' families and of
the ACF team in Trincomalee, Ensuring a commitment to closely follow the
ongoing legal processes of the massacre and Continuing to address the
basic needs of the most vulnerable population.
Legal actions are in process and Action Contre la Faim wants that it
was conducted in accordance with the Sri Lankan laws. |
