Junior stickers for Malaysia

Hockey: A sixteen member junior national boys hockey team for
the under-18 hockey tournament organised by the Malaysian Sports
Federation will leave the island for Malaysia today.
The Junior Asian Championship will be held from September 7 to 14 in
the city of Condran in Malaysia. Four officials will also accompany the
team.
The Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association has picked a very strong
contingent for this important championship which will involve all top
junior teams many countries and a good performance by our stickers will
boost up the game here which has seen ups and downs but the senior
national team did well to win the bronze medal at the recently concluded
four nation South Asian Games hockey championship held in Matale.
The Sri Lanka under-18 team will be led by V. Vimarshan Rajamohan of
Trinity College with Mohammed Maharoof Mulaffer of Kingswood College as
his deputy.
The other players in the touring squad are: Milinda Sapugasgodage (Vijaya
College, Matale), Pushpika Weerakoddy, Muditha Marapona (St. Thomas'
College, Matale), Nuwan Kumara (Vijaya College), H. J. M. Imran (Issipathana
MV), Vimukthi Dharsana (Nalanda College, Colombo), Rangana Wijeratne (Ananda
College), R. Suraweera (Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa), Thisel Rodrigo
(St. Benedict's College), S. L. H. N. Fernando (Kingswood College),
Janitha Witharanage (Trinity College), Dhanushka Perera (Nalanda
College), Sandeep Dias (Ananda Vidyalaya), D. L. Ratnayake (Kingswood
College).
Former Sri Lanka goal-keeper Anuruddha Herath Bandara will accompany
the team as the coach with Saman Wijesinghe as Assistant Coach. Also
accompanying the team will be Shiromantha Wijesinghe (Manager) and
Palith Wasalage (umpire). |
