Army Commander opens a school for differently able children
Panagoda: One of the cherished dreams of the Seva Vanitha Army
Branch (SVAB), chaired by Anoma Fonseka came true when Commander of the
Army Lt. General Sarath Fonseka declared open a specially designed
school for children with physical disabilities inside Army cantonment at
Panagoda.
The unit with modern accessories needed for special educational needs
of this nature cost the SVAB a sum of Rs. 300,000 and received other
assistance from philanthropists, as it serves the first-ever project of
this nature, meant for children of Army families.
The unit, the brainchild of Anoma Fonseka received three children for
admission on the very date of its opening.
Lt. General Sarath Fonseka gracing the occasion as Chief Guest
praised the SVAB membership for their concern on this category of
children, belonging to military families and shared a few thoughts with
parents of those children present on the occasion.
Two specially trained teachers in accordance with international
standards commenced their teaching session just after the opening
ceremony was over.
Several Senior Officers and Members of the SVAB attended the opening
ceremony. |
