Inter-cultural sports festival

SPORTS FESTIVAL: Over 200 children will take part in the Inter-cultural sports festival which will be conducted at the sports school, Nattandiya from September 15 to 17.

Children from the Muslim and Tamil communities of Muttur, Sampur and other areas of the Eastern Province who have been displaced will compete with children from the sports schools of Nattandiya and Tangalle at this three-day festival. They will take part in volleyball, table tennis, football and swimming.

The festival is being held to bring about understanding, friendship and harmony between the children of the three main communities Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims.

The children from the Eastern Province and Tangalle will be provided accommodation and meals at the sports school at Nattandiya during the three day event.

The festival is being organised by the Asian German Sports Exchange programme with two teachers from the sports school, Nattandiya-Martin Binder and Tobias Paul taking great pains to make it a success.
