Woman abducted Rafik Jalaldeen

COLOMBO: A woman was abducted close to her home at Wellawatte while she was on her way to work around 7.30 a.m. yesterday.

Thawamani Thawaraja, 26, believed to be an accountant at the Maharaja Group of Companies was abducted when she left home for work early yesterday, Wellawatte OIC Crimes Manjula Dehideniya said.

"The woman could have been abducted for a personal reason or something else," he told the Daily News. "We inquired from her parents whether she had been threatened by someone or if she had any other personal problems. The victim's mother said, Thawamani never spoke about any threats or problems," he added.

An eye witness have identified the abductors' vehicle.

"It was a white van and was registered under the number 251-7980," Dehideniya said.

"We are trying to trace the van and urge the public to contact the emergency lines or the Wellawatte police if they come across a van with this number," he added.
