Presidential determination, courage brings results
COLOMBO:Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana along with
Presidential Advisor and the Media Ombudsman A.H.M. Azwer thanked
President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the directives he made in search of the
News Director of Sooriyan FM radio Nadaraja Guruparan.
The statement released by Governor Alavi Mowlana and A.H.M. Azwer is
as follows:
Every person who values freedom of writing and expression would
definitely have a sigh of relief to learn that Nadaraja Guruparan, News
Director of Sooriyan FM Radio is back home safe, and has been reunited
with his wife, children and relations.
When Guruparan was reported to be abducted by certain unidentified
persons. We both hurried to the President's House and reported the
matter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the time when he was just
about to get into his vehicle on a visit abroad.
The President hearing this news was visibly shaken up and disturbed.
We appreciate the manner in which he instantly acted by telephoning the
IGP and the Defence Secretary giving them firm orders to trace the
whereabouts of Guruparan and bring him back safe. "Whoever it may be the
abductors must be tracked down and the culprits should be exposed", he
categorically told his defence personnel.
He also told them to clearly understand his thinking on such matters
- he would only help the media personnel and would not harm them in
anyway in keeping with Mahinda Chinthanaya.
The President's determination and courage brought results within 24
hours.
On behalf of Guruparan his family and the Sooriyan FM, We would place
on record our deep appreciation of the speedy action taken by the
President and also the IGP and his police officers who left no stone
unturned in the search of the missing Guruparan. |
