Guruparan urged to reveal kidnappers' details

COLOMBO: Cabinet Spokesman Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa yesterday said Sooriyan FM News Editor Nadaraja Guruparan should disclose details on the unidentified persons who allegedly abducted him to the CID to conduct further investigations.

The CID is conducting further investigations to find out the culprits. Therefore Guruparan should now reveal details on these abductors, the Minister told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

"We are happy that the journalist has rejoined his family," he said. The Minister said the Government will take every possible measure to protect the free access of media and journalists.

"As soon as this incident was reported, President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the authorities to commence immediate investigations. Therefore the IGP directed the CID to commence investigations which are still going on," he said.

Guruparan who was abducted by unidentified persons on Tuesday was released near the Kalubowila General Hospital on Wednesday around 3.00 a.m.
