Lankan women spikers in VB final

VOLLEBALL: Sri Lanka women spikers put up a fine performance against Nepal to qualified to play in the final beating them in straight sets yesterday. Sri Lanka was always in front in the first set collecting regularly, while the Nepalese girls were finding it difficult to penetrate the defence of Lankan lass.

Lankans finished the set in favour of them at 25-20. Nepalese got to the act in the muddle way and managed only 20.

The second set too was won by the hosts with a bigger margin 25-15. In this set it was Sri Lankans attackers who stole the limelight making their opponents pay heavily for powerful dashes.

Wasanthi Mangalika became the top spiker with 14 points. She was outstanding in this set for the winners. Nepalese could not pose a threat to the local spikers at any stage of the game and the Lankans cruise to an easy win in the third set which also sealed victory and a place in the final.

Tomorrow Sri Lanka will meet India in the final while Bangladesh take on Nepal to decide the third place which will see the bronze medallist.
