Uplift for drinking water, sanitation and facilities in difficult
area schools
COLOMBO: The Urban Development and Water Supply Ministry has
launched a special programm to upgrade drinking water and sanitation
facilities in difficult area schools.
The program launched on the instructions of Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena is in keeping with the Mahinda Chintana program of building
a healthy nation through an action program for children.
Initially 96 schools in 11 districts including Anuradhapura,
Hambantota, Badulla, Gampaha, Colombo, Ratnapura, Matale, Nuwara Eliya,
Kandy, Kurunegala and Matale have been selected for development during
the first stage of the program.
The Ministry will spend Rs. 38 million on this program setting up of
a full-fledged drinking water supply network, sanitation facilities,
school health societies, updating old societies, implementation of
environment protection, hygiene, education programs and developing
physical and education sections of the school are envisaged under this
program, a Ministry release said.
A special feature of this program is the deployment of the active
support and contribution of school development societies and the
students for its implementation. |
