Govt assures Muttur Muslims' resettlement
COLOMBO: All arrangements will be made to resettle the Muslim
population displaced following terrorist activities in the area,
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said during a meeting with Muslim Ministers
and Deputy Ministers, Muslim religious dignitaries and intellectuals at
the Presidential Secretariat yesterday morning.
The President said every possible arrangement would be taken to
resettle Muttur Muslims who could continue to live in their places of
origin with dignity.
Over 30,000 Muslims from Muttur forced to flee from their places of
origin are sheltered mainly at Kantale, Kinniya and Thambalagamam.
The meeting was convened by M. Najeeb Abdul Majeed, Minister of
Co-operatives and Co-operative Development and Deputy Minister of
Provincial Councils and Local Government who is also the MP of the area.

Abdul Majeed, M. S. S. Ameer Ali, and Rishard Badurdeen, Deputy Minister
Hussein Bhaila, National Muslim Congress leader N. M. Sahaheed, Muttur
Pradeshiya Sabha member M. S. Rathees, President of Muttur Majlis Soora
Moulavi, M. M. Careem and members from the Board of Ulamas and
representatives from Muttur 3CD organisation also participated. |
