World Tourism Day at Yapahuwa
Celebration : Sri Lanka Tourist Board (SLTB) in association
with Wayamba Development Authority will be celebrating the World Tourism
Day that falls on 27th September 2006 at Yapahuwa.
This is supported by the Divisional Secretariat (Maho), Maho
Pradeshiya Sabha, Zonal Educational Office (Maho), Forest Department (Kurunegala)
and Maho Police with blessings of the Chief Incumbent, Yapahuwa Rajamaha
Viharaya.
Objectives of this is to introduce and promote a lesser known
attraction to domestic and international tourists, promote domestic
tourism, enrich community awareness on tourism and its benefits, Open
avenues for the community to share Tourism benefits and to develop more
tourism facilities to be developed in Wayamba.
Yapahuwa was selected considering its potentials for future tourism
development and its historical and archaeological value which was the
fourth ancient capital of Sri Lanka in 13th century but it is not
popularly known among domestic and international tourists.
International tourist signs will be placed from Daladagama Junction
to Yapahuwa via Maho and a special travel brochure on Yapahuwa will be
launched for the benefit of domestic tourists visiting Yapahuwa.
The Sri Lanka Tourist Board will be conducting community awareness
programmes on tourism and its impact in and around Yapahuwa area. It has
already been initiated to make aware of Police officers, Grama Seva
Officers, Agro Officers, Samurdhi Officers on tourism awareness will be
created among teachers and students in the schools in the Maho
Educational Zone. |
