Fire destroys 17 boats

HAMBANTOTA: A row of fishing boats was completely destroyed in a fire, while being anchored at the Kalametiya fisheries harbour in Hambantota early yesterday.

Altogether 17 boats were destroyed in the fire with the damage estimated at over Rs. 8 million.

Five other fishing boats in the vicinity were also damaged in the fire the cause of which had not been determined even by last evening. The boats belong to fishermen who were affected by the Tsunami.
