Ship officers to receive degrees
AWARD: The Dalian Maritime University (DMU) in China, the
largest Maritime University in the world concluded an agreement with the
CINEC Maritime Campus in Sri Lanka to award Bachelor's degrees in
Maritime Science, Marine Engineering and in Transport and Logistics for
graduates of the CINEC Maritime Campus.
The agreement to award Bachelors Degrees was signed by Vice President
of DMU Prof. Sun Yunqing and Managing Director of CINEC Maritime Campus,
Capt. Asitha Wijesekera at CINEC's Main auditorium in Malabe.
To be recognized and accredited by the Worlds largest Maritime
University which has over 15,000 undergraduates and 3000 post graduate
students including over 4000 international students, is indeed a very
significant and an important milestone for Sri Lanka and its Merchant
Navy Officers and Engineers said Capt. Wijesekera at the signing
ceremony.
Prof. Sun Yunqing, Vice President said that this exercise would
further strengthen close ties between the People's Republic of China and
the government of Sri Lanka and would give opportunities for Sri Lankan
seafarers to international thier academic qualifications thereby gaining
recognition worldwide.
Later, the Chinese delegation together with officials of the CINEC
Maritime met with Secretary Ministry of Shipping Thilak Collure and
Director General of Merchant Shipping Shantha Weerakone to report on the
successful conclusion of the binding agreement to offer DMU degrees to
Sri Lankans who complete programs at CINEC Maritime Campus. |
