People's Bank to reward sportsmen and women

SPORTS AWARDS: People's Bank announced the launch of the annual `Sisu Udana Vishishtayo National Awards Scheme' for outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen in schools.

The awards scheme is open to schoolchildren who belong to a school under the purview of the Ministry of Education and are under 20 years.

This awards scheme is structured to recognise sporting achievements at School level, District level, Zonal/Provincial level, Island/National and International level. Those who have the above achievements will qualify for the 'Sisu Udana Vishishtayo'.

Rs. 12,500 will be awarded to 135 District winners (five from each district and a total of 15 from Colombo, which is divided into three sub-divisions). Rs. 25,000 will be awarded to 15 National winners who will be selected from the 135 winners. All winners will receive a trophy and a certificate.

The prize money will be doubled in the event of the winners having maintained a Deposit Account with People's Bank. Applications close on September 22. All principals from National and leading schools including Sisu Udana banking unit schools will get a copy of the applications and other details.

The applications will be published in the newspapers. All applications should be submitted by registered post to the 'Sisu Udana Vishishtayo' Project Office on the 13th floor of People's Bank Head Office, 75, Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo 2- on or before September 22.

Previous National winners are not eligible to re-apply.
