Bad weather - no play

CRICKET: Bad weather forced a postponement the opening match of the Unitech Cup triangular series limited overs cricket tournament match between Sri Lanka and India at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Although the rains did keep away during the morning and afternoon sessions any chances of at least a delayed start to the game was spoiled by a wet outfield and slippery ground conditions. The match was scheduled to start at 2.00 p.m. but is now set to be played on the reserve day instead weather permitting.

There were still several wet patches at the Premadasa Stadium following heavy overnight rain and the umpires decided to call off the game after an inspection at 3.00 p.m. The match will be replayed today and the umpires are expected to make an inspection at 11.30 a.m before taking a decision.
