COLOMBO: The JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said that his party was
still the first and only friend of the government. This friendship was
mainly formed to combat terrorism and separatism of the LTTE. He said
JVP would be with the Government to protect the sovereignty of the
country.
Addressing the Maha Sanga after meeting them with the party's 20
point proposals to defeat separatism and rebuild the Motherland at a
ceremony at the BMICH on Tuesday, Amarasinghe said whenever the country
was faced with a crisis the JVP came forward to act as a muradevathawa
(guiding deity).
Among the proposals are a call for the abolition of the CFA, the
ouster of Norway as facilitator and the pruning of the Cabinet to
thirty.
"We were very good friends with the Tamil community until 1983 and
this was a very good situation for the development of the country.
However some internal and external powers did not tolerate it." the JVP
leader said.'
Amarasinghe hailed the late Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar as a
greatest individual with a clear vision on how to deal with the LTTE
terrorists. He recalled how the late Foreign Minister handled the issue
when the UN Secretary General Koffi Annan sought permission to proceed
to Killinochchi. "The late Kadirgamar wanted the Secretary General to
acknowledge that the LTTE was a terrorist organisation before he
undertook any such venture".
The Sanga thanked the JVP for the leadership extended at a critical
time facing the nation. They promised to give their fullest cooperation
in conveying the message to the people.
Party General Secretary Tilvin Silva, MP Wijitha Herath also
addressed the meeting.
