More weapons detected in Wattala

WATTALA: Police recovered a further haul of explosives in Wattala
yesterday on information supplied by the LTTE cadre who was arrested on
Sunday along with the detection of a deadly weapons cache inside a lorry
bound for Colombo from North East, Wattala police sources said. Another
suspect died after taking cyanide following the detection in Wattala.
The LTTE cadre Thavarasa Sivapalan who took cyanide was rushed to the
Maharagama hospital after swallowing cyanide when he was taken into
custody. Upon interrogation he revealed the site where more weapons were
hidden in a garbage dump close to where the lorry was parked, police
sources said.
Wattala police recovered large quantity of explosives from the
garbage dump.
These included ten hand grenades, 10 detonators, one silencer pistol,
one small pistol, 225 ammunition of 9mm- 7.2, 3 magazines, one remote
control device and two boosters were found on the spot, Wattala police
sources added. |
