MUHAMALAI: Security Forces yesterday foiled another bid by the
LTTE to smuggle weapons to the south to be used against possible VIP
targets. The detection was made at the Muhamalai Army checkpoint at
around 9.30 am.
The weapons haul was seized from the hood of a private bus which had
left the uncleared area, a spokesman for the Media Centre for National
Security (MCNS) said.
"This shows that the LTTE is hell bent on creating mayhem and
destruction outside the areas of conflict," a MCNS source said.
The haul comprised one Pistol 9mm, three T-56 weapons, 15 T-56
Magazines, four Anti Personnel Mine, 30 Detonators, two Remote Control
Devices, four Claymore Mine Devices, 10 Hand Grenades, eight Suicide
Charges and 20 Batteries.
Police last week seized a lorry transporting weapons at Beruwela. The
weapons were believed to have been used to a target a VIP. |
