Import duty on B onions increased

COLOMBO: The Government has decided to increase the import duty on B onions from Rs. 10 to 20 per kilogram,the Finance and Planning Ministry said in a release.

This is following the influx of the Yala Kanna big onion harvest to the local market being adequate for the next four months.

This was also to protect the local Big onion growers in Anuradhapura, Matale and Mahaweli 'H'Zone who produced 64,522 Metric tons of 'B'onion during the Yala season, the release said.
