LTTE attack on schools condemned
COLOMBO: The Ceylon Teachers' Service Union in a media
communique has severely condemned the LTTE mortar attacks on school
buildings in Mutur and Thoppur killing 18 and critically injuring more
than 60 civilians who were displaced and taking refuge inside these
buildings.
The LTTE who are ravaged by the pending shameful defeat are targeting
innocent civilians of all communities and intentionally destroying
academic institutions of the future generation where the displaced
civilians take refuge.
This is a part of their strategy to harass schoolchildren, teachers
and principals who defy their terrorist demands.
They have destroyed the Mutur Arab Vidyalaya and Alhilal Vidyalaya
and Nooriya Vidyalaya of Thoppur.
Their acts of terror such as abduction and conscription of children
in the North and East deprive the children of their right to education.
The separatism of the LTTE is not at all appealing to the
intelligentsia of the North and East, the media release emphasised.
The Ceylon Teachers' Service Union in their media communique urged
the Government not to tolerate LTTE terrorism any more and take maximum
steps to protect the life and liberty of the Sinhalese, Muslims and
Tamils living in the North and East.
All who love their motherland and its people should cooperate with
the Government against terrorism, communique says. |
