Petes looking for another win

SCHOOLS RUGBY: St. Peter's College will be hoping to register
their fourth successive victory when they take on Thurstan College in
their Singer inter school under 20 league rugby tournament fixture at
Bambalapitiya today.
The Peterites have shown early promise this season and have already
defeated Nalanda College, S. Thomas' College and Wesley College quite
convincingly. In contrast Thurstan are still recovering following their
loss to Ananda College and will be determined to put up an improved
performance.
The Peterites seem to be making amends for their disappointing season
last year where they experienced mixed fortunes and were pushed to the
third place in the final points table. The Thurstanites of course
received a promotion into the 'A' division after they emerged runners up
in the 'B' division tournament last year.
Meanwhile the defending champions Kingswood College will face an acid
test when they take on S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia in another key
Singer inter school rugby tournament match at the Police Park today.
The Kingswoodians will be quite determined to pull off this game
having suffered a shock defeat at the hands of their home town rivals
St. Anthony's College last week. In another major setback they were held
to a 16 all draw by the traditional rivals Wesley College.
The Thomians too will have a point to prove in this game having
emerged runners up in the 'A' division league tournament last year. But
in the current season they are yet to make their presence felt having
registered a solitary victory against the Anandians and had another
convincing win over Zahira College in a friendly encounter.
Wesley College will be out to put up an improved performance when
they confront the giant killers St. Anthony's College in their Singer
inter school under 20 rugby tournament match at the Royal College
grounds, Reid Avenue today.
The Wesleyites came out with a splendid effort last week where they
held the defending champions Kingswood College to a 16 all draw in the
most exciting contest played this season. However the Antonians have
already made their presence felt with a stunning win over Kingswood
College despite losing to Trinity College in Kandy. |
