Not the way to do it SLC
CRICKET:Sri Lanka Cricket, apparently do not know where to
give honour where honour is due.
If this not so how can one explain, that while the players who played
in the inaugural Test at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium were honoured at a
ceremony yesterday, before the start of play in the Second Test between
Sri Lanka and South Africa, the umpires who officiated at that historic
game Herbie Felsinger and K. T. Francis were ignored?.
Herbie Felsinger was one of the finest cricketers produced in the pre
Test era and now is looking feeble and is with a walking stick and needs
somebody to take him around. K.T.Francis was one of the best umpires
produced by the country and stood with distinction in several Test
matches here and abroad.
But hey presto, after the ceremony was over, and as an afterthought the
two umpires were rewarded. But that is not how it should have been.
Also there were several media men who covered the inaugural Test 25
long years ago,but SLC thought it fit to only mention one journalist by
name.
The SLC need not be told that it is not one man that makes the
media.(E.R) |
