Diploma course for social workers

KELANIYA: The University of Kelaniya has planned to start a
diploma course for social workers who engage in different fields of
social services in Sri Lanka as well as in foreign countries. The
inauguration of this course will take place on August 7, at 10.00 am at
the Faculty of Social Sciences Boardroom, said a source from the
Ministry of Education.
The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences will be
conducting this course with the help of several other resource persons
from different universities and institutions who will provide lectures
to this course.
The first batch of students that have been selected for this course
are from the Republic of Maldives. These students have been awarded with
special scholarships from the UNICEF ( United Nations International
Children's Education Fund) and the British Council in Maldives to pursue
this course.
The level of social issues and problems in Maldives having increased
during the last few years, the Ministry of Gender and Family in Maldives
has decided that, all students trained under this diploma will be
employed in the government service of the Republic of Maldives.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Susil Premajayantha,
Minister of Education, Aishath Mohomad Didi, Minister of Gender and
Family Maldives, Prof. M. J. S. Wijeyaratne, Vice Chancellor of the
University of Kelaniya and other staff from the University. |
