Bauer to meet PM, FM today

COLOMBO: Norway's special envoy Jon Hanssen Bauer arrives in Sri Lanka today in a fresh bid to salvage the faltering peace process, Embassy officials said.

Embassy spokesman Tom Knappskog said the envoy is scheduled to meet Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera today and the LTTE political leadership.

Diplomatic sources said the main purpose of the envoy's visit was to discuss the future of the Swedish led monitoring Mission from which three EU member country members including Sweden are expected to pulled out before the month is out.

Knappskog said the envoy is also expected to urge the Government and the LTTE to bring down the level of violence.
