COLOMBO: The Court of Appeal issued notice on the Vice Chancellor,
the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Culture and a lecturer of the
South-Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) to appear before the Court
of Appeal on August 21.
The two judge Bench comprising Justice K. Sripavan and Justice Sisira
de Abrew issued notice after an undergraduate of SEUSL filed a petition
stating his results at the final year examination was withheld and that
he was entitled to a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondents to
release the results.
A.L.M. Aslam an undergraduate of SEUSL who sat for his final
examination in January 2006 cited 25 respondents including SEUSL Vice
Chancellor Dr. A.G. Hussein Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and
Culture K.M.M. Faleel Haque and the SEUSL.
Aslam said he had secured the highest marks in his batch up to the
first semester of the final year and he believed if the results of the
second semester were released he would be entitled to be conferred with
a First Class (Honours) degree.
Aslam said he submitted the student record book, subject registration
form and the examination entry form to Faleel Haque, lecturer-Economics
for his signature in accordance with the general practice. Later he
found the signatures by the lecturer on the documents differed from one
another. He informed this to the Vice Chancellor.
He said at the fourth year final semester examination he was informed
on January 4, 2006 he was permitted to sit the examination, under
protest because the lecturer-economics complained that the petitioner
appeared to have forged the signatures of the lecturer-economics. |
