COLOMBO: A new parking arrangement will come into effect for the
vehicles parked in several streets in Colombo from today to reduce the
difficulties caused in an emergency situation and to increase the
security of the city.
SSP Police Motor Traffic Department Y.G.R.M. Lafir said Sunday that
the empty parking in York Street will continue up to the Harbour, Layden
Bastian Road, Reclamation Road, Main Street, Olcott Mawatha and Maradana.
The new parking space opposite Lake House is used for the vehicles
parked at Fort, Union Place, Slave Island and Chatham Street. "The same
space will be used for the vehicles parked in Reclamation Road and
Olcott Mawatha," SSP Lafir said.
"Vehicles at Maradana and Panchikawatte will be directed to a parking
lot opposite the railway station and the car park near Gamini Hall will
be used for the vehicles parked on Darley Road," he explained.
SSP Lafir added that the empty parking will be operated on the
Baseline Road as well. Vehicles parked on the Baseline Road will be
diverted to Wesley College car park.
He requested the public to cooperate with the traffic police in
implementing this new system. He added that there will be no fee charged
at present and guaranteed the safety of the vehicles parked in the new
parking areas. |
