ICA felicitates Cabraal
FELICITATION: The Institute of Chartered Accounts will felicitate its
past President Ajith Nivard Cabraal who assumed duties as the Governor
of the Central Bank recently. Cabraal is the first Chartered Accountant
to hold this position.
He had his training at KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton and Company, a
leading firm of Chartered Accountants. As an accountancy student he took
an active interest in student welfare and was elected the President of
the Students Society of the Institute.
He was admitted to Membership of the Institute after the successful
completion of his examinations in 1977. He took an active interest in
the activities of the institute and was elected a Member of the Council
of the Institute in 1988.
As a Member of the Council he played a proactive role in the work of
the committees and functioned as the Chairman of the Conference
Committee and the Finance and Administration Committee which streamlined
the administration of the institute and embarked on a programme of staff
development. He was elected Vice President of the institute in 1990 and
the President in 1992.
Cabraal was the Founder Chairman of the Corporate Governance
Committee of the Institute which developed the Code of Practice on
Corporate Governance in Sri Lanka. He was also the President of the
Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners' Association of Sri
Lanka. |
