Manel Mal campaign begins
COLOMBO: The Manel Mal Movement inaugurated its campaign of donning
people with the "Manel Mal" ornament, from opposite the famous bo-tree
of Pettah, Colombo, under the patronage of pioneers of the Manel Mal
Movement yesterday morning.
Addressing the crowd, JHU legal advisor Udaya Gammanpila who is also
a leading member of the movement stated that the aim of their movement
is to build confidence in the minds of our warriors whose courage at the
moment is likely to wane as a result of a conspiracy masterfully
orchestrated by separatists.
Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera said this campaign was launched for the dual
purpose of providing welfare facilities to personnel in the war front
and to uplift their morals.
Veteran dramatist Dr. Sarathchandra Edirisinghe also spoke. Sumith
Sirisena, Lal Kularatne, Cyril Wickremage, Anton Jude, Anula
Bulathsinghala, Somaratne Dissanayake, J.R.Perera, Sisira Amarabandu,
Nihal Jayawardena, Premaratne Rupasinghe, and Kumaradasa Saputantri were
among other artistes who participated at this inaugural campaign.
Attorney-at-Law S.L. Gunasekera is the Convener of the Manel Mal
Movement.
