Dankotuwa products reaches Selfridges retail store
MARKET EXPANSION: Dankotuwa products entered London’s prestigious
store Selfridges for the first time. Dankotuwa has been selling in UK
through its agent Fairmont and Maine for over 12 years.
During the last Ambiente Fair which was held in Frankfurt in
February, Selfridges showed an interest in the Plus and Tavola shapes
designed by Prof Wolf Karnegel and produced by Dankotuwa Porcelain Ltd.
Last month a shipment of Dankotuwa products made its way to Selfridges
through its UK agent.
“This is another feather in our cap and also prestigious to Sri
Lanka”, said Sunil Wijesinha elaborating on the acceptance of Dankotuwa
products by many top European US and Japanese retailers.
Selfridges is considered one of the prestigious stores in UK and
according to some second only to the famous store Harrods. Selfridges
was setup by Harry Gorden Selfridge who opened the Oxford Street Store
in 1909.
Today it has four stores in UK. It houses over one million products
in a vibrant environment of chic contemporary design.
Selfridges is credited with the modern retail display system of
having displays of merchandize more accessible to customers, and was the
first retailer to have perfume counters at the front of the store on the
ground floor something that all department stores do now. Sir Selfridge
is credited with coining the phrase “the customer is always right” after
having first heard it in India.
Selfridges is well-known to have only high quality goods on display.
Customers of Selfridges are also the upper segment of society with high
purchasing power.
