Mechanism needed to solve unsettled problems - Hakeem
COLOMBO: A well-planned structural mechanism is needed to properly
address the unsettled and unattended problems of the Colombo Muslims,
said SLMC national leader Rauff Hakeem at party head quarters 'Dharussalam'
in Colombo on Wednesday.
He said that the Muslim community in Colombo was lagging behind very
much in the field of education as well.
The SLMC leader was speaking at a special function at which
appointment letters were issued to 84 branch organisers who represented
a cross section of the Muslim community in the metropolitan.
The leader also called upon all Muslim Parliamentarians, Provincial
Council members and other local government bodies to join hands with the
SLMC in its ongoing efforts to resolve the problems of the Muslim
community.
The problems of the Colombo Muslims have been segmented into three
wide areas. Firstly their educational and cultural problems, secondly
their health, housing and recreation problems and lastly their economic
problems would be addressed by the SLMC with assistance from experts in
the fields, he said, adding that the SLMC would draw out clear and far
sighted plans on these.
The administration of the Colombo MC is in a mess and both the major
political parties are making frantic efforts to form an alliance with
the SLMC. |
