PM hails Malaysia-Lanka friendship
COLOMBO: The Existing Trade and Economic Agreements between the two
countries were performing satisfactorily, said Malaysian Foreign
Minister Dato Seri Syed Hamid Albar when he met Sri Lanka Prime Minister
Ratnasiri Wickramanayake at his office yesterday.
The visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister was accompanied by Malaysian
Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nazirah Hussain.
The Malaysian Foreign Minister said that cultural and social
similarities of both Sri Lanka and Malaysia help to continue development
of the friendship between the two countries.
The Ambassador also said that Sri Lanka was a beautiful island and
that he fervently hoped that the current unfortunate situation in the
country would end in the desired peace, which was what his government
too desired for the well-being of Sri Lanka just as much as it was
desired by the Government of Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake responding said that Malaysia
had always been a good friend to Sri Lanka and that the trade and other
agreements between the two countries were continuing satisfactorily and
that his Government appreciated much the assistance of the Malaysian
government towards this.
While appreciating the long-time friendship between the two peoples,
the Prime Minister said that Malaysia was an inspiring example for the
people of developing countries.
The Prime Minister's Secretary Mahinda Bandusena was also present. |
