UNP MPs in bullock carts to Parliament latest gimmick - Azwer
COLOMBO: In a media release former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs
and Presidential Advisor A.H.M. Azwer referring to the five UNP MPs
going to Parliament in bullock carts, said he was amused by this latest
gimmick.
'What happened to the Semi-Luxury Tata Safari vehicles I gave them
when I was Minister for Parliamentary Affairs?' He queried' It is best
that they now give those vehicles to the common man and continue to use
bullock carts for their transport. It suits their style perfectly'.
He said he was tickled pink when he noticed that only five UNP MPs
had thought it fit to protest in this manner.
'What happened to the leader(s) and the rest of the party members?'
He asked 'Did they come to Parliament in airconditioned modern vehicles
or not?
He wanted to know where the party leadership was when this protest
took place and wondered whether they were in hiding. 'I know who led the
carts' he said 'but I want to know who led the protest'.
He recalled that when a similar protest took place during the heyday
of the UNP it were the party leaders like. J.R. Jayewardene and
Ranasinghe Premadasa who led from the front as they came in 'buggy carts
to Parliament. That role was not given to bulls'. |
