CIBF comes to Kandy
KANDY: The Colombo International Book Fair has been brought to Kandy
for the third successive year.
Organised by the Sri Lanka Book Publishers' Association, the fair
will be open to public from June 21 to 25 at the K.M.C. Car Park, from
9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
The fair will present vast selection of books in Sinhala, Tamil and
English:
Daily Cultural Shows will also be held after 4.00 p.m.
Annual sessions
COLOMBO: The 35th Annual sessions of the Institute of Chemistry,
Ceylon, will be held at the Transasia Hotel from June 28 to 30. The
sessions will be inaugurated on June 28 at 9.00 a.m. with Prof. A.P. de
Silva of Queen's University, Belfast, as Chief Guest, and Prof. B.J.
Clark of the University of Bradford School of Pharmacy, U.K. as Guest of
Honour.
Prof. A.P. de Silva, formerly of the University of Colombo, is one of
the world's leading researchers in the field of fluorescence and
molecular probes.
Fund raiser
COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Federation of Non Governmental Organizations
Against Drug Abuse presents: "Memories of Yester Year, a fund raiser on:
Saturday, June 24 at 6.30 pm at the BMICH (Banquet Hall).
Leadership and Skills Training Course
CHILAW: Leadership and Skills Training Course for Scout Leaders and
Cub Scout Leaders, will be held at Sanghindiyawa Animation Center,
Chilaw from June 23 to 25 by the Sri Lanka Scout Association Colombo
District Branch.
The theme of the course will be "More training for effective
leadership".
Junior concert
NUGEGODA: "A space fantasy", a junior concert by the pupils of the
Junior section of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda will be staged
at BMICH on June 25 from 5.45 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Mohan Lal Grero, founder and Managing Director, Lyceum International
Schools and Mrs. Kumari Grero, Principal, Lyceum International School,
Nugegoda, will be the chief guests at this junior concert.

COLOMBO: The Annual Public Meeting of the Colombo YWCA will be held
in the Jubilee Hall, 393, Union Place, Colombo 02, on Friday, June 30 at
4.00 p.m.
The Chief Guest will be Rt.Revd. Duleep de Chickera, Bishop of
Colombo.

holding its 23rd Annual General Meeting on Wednesday June 28, at 4.00

Services of Sai Baba Centre lauded
COLOMBO: "The health services carried out by the Colombo Sai Baba
Centre at the Hendala-Wattala Leprosy Hospital and at Maharagama Cancer
Hospital should be appreciated by everyone", said chief trustee of the
Bambalapitiya New Kathiresan Hindu Temple, S. Subramaniam Chettiar at a
prayer meeting at the Sai Baba Shrine in Colombo.
By the grace of Sai Baba, the Centre has managed to construct a Sai
Baba Shrine of their own with the patronage of the Social Worker Siva
Selvaratnam said Subarmaniam Chettiar.
The President of the Sai Centre S.N. Udhaya Nayahan presided over the
function.
Picketing campaign
KALUTARA:A picketing campaign to mark the 'International Day of
Solidarity with Torture Victims' will be held near the Kalutara Clock
Tower on June 26 from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Janasansadaya Secretary
Chitral Perera said representatives of the Asian Human Rights Commission
(Hong Kong), Ratnapura Democracy and Human Rights Organisation, Wayamba
Human Rights Forum and Galle Human Rights Protection organisation will
participate in the campaign.
Awards ceremony
COLOMBO: The 11th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Funeral (Janaza)
Service Society and Awards Ceremony of its National Council will take
place on June 24 at 9.30 a.m. at the Public Library, Colombo 7.
Justice, Law Reforms and National Integration Minister Amarasiri
Dodangoda will be the chief guest. Director, Consular Affairs, Foreign
Affairs Ministry A.C.M. Ibrahim will be the special guest.
Theologians of all communities, Medical Practitioners, Heads of the
Departments, Inquirers into Sudden Deaths, Soldiers, Birth and Death
Registrars, Social Workers and Volunteers will be awarded in recognition
