Romani fastest driver at Eliyakanda Hill Climb

MOTOR RACING: Romani de Silva driving his Ford Formula Vandiemen registered the fastest time for the Eliyakanda Hill Climb (Browns Hill) which was held last Sunday at Matara. De Silva's time of 36.73 seconds was fastest recorded for the day. In the Motor Cycle Category. C. Samaranayake recorded the day's best for two wheeler when he clocked 43.29 secs for the event on his Yamaha TZR 125cc.

Days fastest driver de Silva was awarded the Preethi Palliyaguru Memorial Toshiba Trophy. Dhammika Pieris in his Honda Civic 1500 cc clocked 42.87 sect to win the Group SLN Standard Cars 10-12 kg category ahead of Jagath Munasinghe who had 43.59 sect. Upulwan Serasinghe another veteran drive in a Toyota Starlet grabbed the title in the group SLN Standard Diesel cars up to 2000 cc with Prasanna de Alwis taking the runners up position.

Buddhika de Silva had a time of 45.65 secs in the Nissan March 1000 cc category. Here Dhammika Pieris had to content with the second slot.

Ford Laser/Mazda specialist Upulwan Serasinghe made it a double when he drove his Mazda to finished the course in only 43.10 seconds getting the better of U. C. Perera and Prasanna de Alwis one make car event for Ford Laser/Mazda 1300 cc.

Dhammika Pieris won the One Make Ford Laser/Mazda 323 upto 1500 cc ahead of Susantha Gunewardena and Prasanna de Alwis clocking 42.05 secs for the event.

K. Parameshwaran with a time of 43.34 managed to win the title for mini cars upto 1000 cc. In the Super Cars event it was last years SLARDAR Aravinda Premadasa clocked 37.42 in the Super Car event in his Mitsubishi Evo VII ahead of Dasaraj Dahanayake and Romani de Silva.

Police Sergeant M. C. S. Perera was the other rider to excel in the motor cycle 250 cc class. He clocked 49.36 secs to cover the course on his Honda CBR 250.
