Another suspicious trawler seized

NEGOMBO: Another suspicious trawler believed to have transported LTTE cadres had been seized in the Negombo area along with the owner, a businessman.

The 32 feet long trawler had been taken into custody as a result of the investigations conducted following the seizure of a boat that contained 130 kgs of explosives which was seized on June 17 at Thalavila. According to the Police the investigation revealed that the businessman had bought the trawler for Rs. 2 million two weeks ago.

After the trawler was seized it was taken about two miles out to sea and was inspected for nearly three hours by the Bomb Disposal Squad. It was equipped with Satellite Navigator machines.

No explosives were found in the trawler but diving equipment was recovered. Thereafter, the trawler was brought back to the Negombo lagoon and had been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department. The CID and Negombo Police are conducting investigations.
