Holiday bonanza for public servants

COLOMBO: The Government has decided to pay public servants an incentive allowance for a maximum of 30 days of unutilised annual and vacation leave.

This was proposed by the last budget and confirmed by the circular of Public Administration No 10/2006. The employee should save a minimum of five days and maximum of 30 days to be entitled for this allowance. It will be added to the monthly salary at the end of the year.

The allowance will be calculated based on unutilised leave.

This incentive scheme will be implemented back dated from January 1, 2006. An employee paid this incentive allowance, cannot avail himself of the unutilised leave for the ensuing year.
