300 MW dual fuel combined cycle power plant at Kerawalapitiya
The Cabinet has granted its approval to establish a 300 mw dual fuel
combined cycle power plant at Kerawalapitiya on Design, Build and
Transfer (DBT) basis. Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne had
submitted the Cabinet Memorandum in this regard.

Child Development Committees will be combined
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by the
Minister of Child Development and Women Empowerment Sumedha G. Jayasena
to combine the Child Development Committees of 3 districts. This
Committee will work towards the development of children and their
protection, she said.

Construction of building complex to house Veterinary Teaching
Hospital
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by
Education Minister A.D. Susil Premajayantha to construct a building
complex to house the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of Peradeniya,
at a cost of Rs. 44 million.

Salary increase to Petroleum employees
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by
Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A.H.M. Fowzie on
the 23 percent salary increase for Ceylon Petroleum Corporation
employees with effect from January 2006.
This decision was taken in view of the government directive to revise
salaries of government sector.

P.A. Abeysekera, Public Finance's Director General
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Minister of Finance and
Planning, to fill the post of Director General of the Public Finance
Department at the Treasury by P.A. Abeysekera, the present Secretary of
Bribery Commission. He is a Class I SLAS Officer. He fills the vacancy
created by the retirement of Mr. M.D.R. Senanayake, who was also a Class
I SLAS Officer on 09.06.2006.

Stamp Duty Special Provisions Act to be submitted to the Parliament
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Minister of Finance and
Planning, to place Order Paper in Parliament for its approval of the
Regulations made under the Stamp Duty Act. No, 43 of 1982 and Stamp Duty
Special Provision Act No. 12 of 2006.

Executive at the Information Technology Unit
The Cabinet has granted approval to a Memorandum submitted by the
President who is also the Minister of Finance and Planning, to appoint a
Senior Executive Officer at the Information and Technology Unit under
the Ministry of Finance and Planning. It has also granted approval to
appoint Mr. M.D.R. Senanayake to the post. He was the Director General
of the Public Finance Department of the Ministry.

President's initiative lauded
Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda in a
note to the Cabinet said that his endeavour was to get across to the
Tamil community the initiative of His Excellency, the President towards
finding a sustainable and honourable solution to the conflict and the
determination of His Excellency to wipe the tears from the eyes of those
living in the North and East as pledged in the vision of Mahinda
