Army Chief to resume duties next week

COLOMBO: Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka is expected to resume
official duties next week.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe told the Daily News
yesterday that the Commander is already giving orders from his hospital
room and is expected to resume duties within a few days.
Doctors who treated Lt. Gen. Fonseka termed his recovery as amazing.
He received critical injuries in an LTTE suicide attack inside Army
Headquarters in Colombo on April 25.
Following the attack, he was rushed to the National Hospital with
severe injuries to his abdomen, neck and thorax and taken in for
emergency surgery which lasted for four hours.
Lt. Gen. Fonseka is expected to be discharged from the Army Hospital
where he is currently staying, in a couple of days. |
