People's wish is peace with dignity - Media Minister
COLOMBO:Information and Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa,
responding to certain observations made by UNP Deputy General Secretary
Tissa Attanayake at a news conference this week states that it was a
grand display of total political bankruptcy engrossed with false
allegations, distortion of facts and political opportunism.
The Minister said: "The UNP Deputy General Secretary has stated that
the Government is re-inviting a war. This allegation is made when a
majority of the world community acknowledges the fact that the present
impasse of the peace process in Sri Lanka is sequel to the
uncompromising fascist stance of the LTTE.
The UNP Deputy General Secretary who is apparently forcing himself to
forget the shadow war waged by the LTTE throughout the whole of past two
years has to be reminded that the Government of President Mahinda
Rajapakse remains committed to the course of peace through negotiation
without betraying the aspirations of the people.
"Tissa Attanayake's cry is similar in every respect to the Voice of
Tigers and it is unbecoming of a responsible Opposition when the wish of
the people is not the peace of a tombstone but peace with dignity
achieved through negotiations." |
